representative of PSOL, requested the collaboration of the federal government for the proposed amendment to the Constitution (PEC) that seeks to abolish the six-day working day with one day off. The statement was made before the meeting with the Minister of Institutional Relations, after Hilton managed to gather the 171 signatures necessary to file the proposal. “I will, first, listen to what Minister Padilha has to tell us”, he declared. “What we need is for the government to support us and strengthen this discussion in the National Congress and for Minister Padilha to do mediation work, so that we can gain momentum and that we can deal with this PEC with the support of the government. , open and declared.”

“Today I hope to understand what the government’s vision is, what its concerns are and how we can resolve any doubts. What does the government think? We don’t listen to the government”, said the parliamentarian. Hilton continued: “I think the meeting with Minister Padilha will be about listening to the government, knowing what the government’s thermometer is in light of this, so that we can understand how to position ourselves and how to organize ourselves here within the House.”

Hilton’s proposal is expected to be added to the PEC, which has been in progress since 2019. Although both proposals seek to reform the working day, they present significant differences in their guidelines. Hilton’s PEC suggests a workload of four days per week, with a transition period of one year.

On the other hand, Lopes’ proposal does not specify the number of working days and proposes a longer transition, of ten years, allowing the five-day-a-week working day to be implemented over eight years. Lopes’ PEC has already received a favorable opinion from the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ), but it will be necessary to appoint a new rapporteur to continue the process.
