Many rivers on the island of Sicily overflowed their banks and flooded the streets of cities due to heavy rains.

According to initial information, no one was injured and only parked cars were washed away by the water. However, Sicily has been plagued by persistent rain for several days.
Firefighters had to intervene several times and get residents out of their homes to safety. In Riposte, they managed to save four people from a ground-floor apartment that was almost completely under water.
Emergency services freed several motorists who could not get out of their vehicles without help. On amateur video footage, cars were seen almost completely submerged in mud, writes DPA.
