The Armed Forces begin this Thursday (14) to act at () for the Leaders’ Summit, which takes place between the 18th and 19th of November in Rio de Janeiro.
(PT) last Friday (8), the operation will last until November 21st.
Lula’s decree foresees the presence of 95 agents from the National Public Security Force (FNSP), who will carry out overt and preventive policing actions at the event, at the conference locations and in the city center.
The use of the Armed Forces is expected to replace police officers and other security agents in situations of serious “disruption of order”. The objective is to protect the population and ensure the proper functioning of institutions.
The use of the Armed Forces will occur together with the Ministry of Justice and in coordination with other public security bodies.
GLO’s areas of action will be:
- External perimeter of the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, Marina da Glória and the Monument to Estácio de Sá;
- Locations for hosting delegations of heads of state;
- Round-trip routes for the delegations, between the accommodation locations and the Museum of Modern Art, including the roads in the south and west zones used on the route;
- Arrival and exit routes between Tom Jobim International Airport and accommodation locations, including the extension of the Governador Carlos Lacerda Highway (Yellow Line), the Presidente João Goulart Expressway (Red Line) and other roads in the south zone and the west used on the route;
- External perimeter of Tom Jobim International Airport, including the passenger embarkation and disembarkation terminals, Avenida 20 de Janeiro and Estrada do Galeão, from the Galeão Air Force Hospital to the junction with the Red Line, and from the Red Line to its intersection with the Yellow Line;
- Brazilian jurisdictional waters of interest to the G20 Leaders Summit, including inland waters, in conjunction with the Federal Police.
G20 not Brazil
The G20 is an international organization that brings together the 19 largest economies in the world, in addition to the European Union and the African Union, which aims to debate topics for strengthening the international economy and global socioeconomic development.
According to the federal government, in addition to the delegations of the 21 summit members, another 56 delegations are expected to participate in the event. Among those confirmed, there are 40 heads of state and government or top leaders of international organizations.
