The proposal was presented at a negotiation meeting between the Government and the firefighter unions. The next meeting is scheduled for November 25th.
The government proposed this Wednesday a gradual increase in firefighters’ remuneration from 15% to 20% until 2026, including the creation of risk and function supplements in response to the demands of these professionals’ unions.
The proposal was presented at a negotiation meeting between the Government, represented by the ministry that manages the Territorial Cohesion portfolio, and the firefighter unions.
“At this meeting, the Government presented its initial proposal, which consists of reviewing the remuneration table, based on the Public Administration remuneration system in force, the creation of a risk supplement and the creation of the function supplement, which covers concepts of hardship, unhealthy conditions and permanent availability, with a phased evolution between 2025 and 2026”, said the Government, in a statement.
According to the same source, the proposal implies that, from January 2025, active firefighters will have a average increase of “around 5%” in their remuneration.
Furthermore, says Manuel Castro Almeida’s office, the new risk and function supplements reflect a average increase over two years of up to 15%.
Ensuring that the proposal reflects “the desire to value, adapt and adapt the career of firefighters”, the government admitted that the negotiation constitutes “the initial step towards resolving” the demands made by professionals over several years.
The next meeting is scheduled for November 25th.
