The first forecast for the 2025 harvest, released by the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA), points to significant growth in the production of grains, cereals and legumes in Brazil. The estimate is that the harvest will reach 311 million tons, representing an increase of 5.8% compared to the previous year. This growth is mainly driven by soybeans, which are expected to increase by 10.9%. In addition to soybeans, other crops should also show positive results. First-crop corn is expected to grow 9.1%, while first-crop rice and beans are expected to increase 6% and 18.1%, respectively.

However, the production of herbaceous cotton and corn from the second harvest are expected to face declines, which could impact the overall result. This recovery is seen as crucial for controlling inflation and increasing Brazilian exports. Soybean production should reach a new record, with 160.2 million tons projected for 2025. Corn should total 115.9 million tons, showing a slight growth of 0.3% compared to 2024. For beans, the expectation is 3.3 million tons, while rice production should reach 11.2 million tons. Production growth will be observed in 12 states, including Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Minas Gerais.

On the other hand, states such as Mato Grosso, Maranhão and Pará are expected to record drops in production, which could affect the dynamics of the agricultural market. The research also provided data on the 2024 harvest, which should be 6.9% smaller than that of 2023, totaling 293.8 million tons. The area allocated to harvesting increased by 1.1% compared to the previous year, which may indicate an attempt to compensate for losses.

Regarding storage capacity, Brazil saw growth of 5.4% in the first half of 2024, reaching 222.3 million tons. Rio Grande do Sul stands out for the number of storage establishments, while Mato Grosso leads in total capacity. Stocks of agricultural products in the country total 87.9 million tons, with soybeans representing the majority of this volume. Compared to the previous year, there was an increase in corn and rice stocks, but a reduction in soybean, wheat and coffee stocks, which could influence market decisions in the coming months.
