Glycerin or even ordinary oil can help you with ice in the fridge or freezer. But first, it is advisable to face the problem head on. Start cleaning and looking for the problem.

How to deal with ice in the freezer or refrigerator?

Although ice is also in the name of the refrigerator, in modern appliances you should no longer find ice and frost anywhere else than in the freezer. The type of no-frost refrigerators is no longer a novelty on the market, but a completely common technology that is also used by manufacturers of cheap goods. Excess moisture in the air, which could otherwise freeze or form puddles in the refrigerator, collects on the back wall of the refrigerator, after which it flows through the drainage channel to the evaporator.

But what if icing and a layer of ice still form? Defrost the fridge, find the problem and treat the walls of the fridge or freezer as a preventive measure.

Taking care of the freezer and refrigerator includes not only regular cleaning, but also defrosting. How Alena Kopáčková advises you in this post from the YouTube channel of the same name.

Find the source of the problem in the fridge or freezer

Problems can start to occur if the thermostat is damaged or for some other reason the cooling device excessively cools the refrigerator and ice starts to form in it. It is also essential not to close the door, which is then the gateway for warm air from the kitchen.

Such a non-standard environment will then force the cooling unit to operate permanently and thus also produce ice, for example, but there can also be a small thing behind it. A malfunctioning fan can also be to blame.

Before you start thinking about replacing a malfunctioning device, make sure that the drain channel is working properly. It is this small detail that is extremely important. A blockage can be caused by a number of things from a crumb or piece of food that can block the drain, to mold forming, to improper installation of an appliance that is not level and due to which the water does not flow where it should.

Too warm food in the fridge or freezer also significantly worsens the situation. Always make sure it is at room temperature. Keep food in resealable containers and try not to overcrowd the fridge and allow air to circulate.

In old or very small refrigerators, where the freezer is part of the refrigerator compartment, frost occurs more often in both the freezer compartment and the refrigerator compartment. These appliances do not have drainage channels for excess accumulated moisture, so it all accumulates inside and sometimes outside the small freezer box. And what in these cases? Is there any way to minimize the formation of ice and frost?

Treat the walls of the freezer with oil as a preventive measure

It is possible to spread a thin layer of liquid glycerin on the wall of the refrigerator, but also of the defrosted and wiped-dry freezer. Literally just a few drops. This will protect the walls of the appliance with a thin water-repellent layer and thus temporarily prevent the formation of frost and ice, but there is also another water-repellent liquid that is undoubtedly in every Czech household.

It is an oil that can also be applied in a very thin layer to the walls of the refrigerator or rather the freezer. Before applying, make sure that the refrigerator is completely clean and especially dry. Apply a small amount of oil to the cloth and spread it in a very thin layer over the entire surface of the freezer.

The walls of the freezer or refrigerator must be completely dry to the touch even after application. If the grease is obvious, take a paper towel or other dry cloth and rid the refrigerator of thicker layers of deposits or sprinkles.
