The photo shows the monarch wearing a suit, white shirt and blue tie, with one hand in his pocket as he rests the other on a chair.
The image was shared on the Royal Family’s official X account with a birthday cake emoji and the message: “We wish His Majesty the King Happy birthday today.” He was also wished “Happy Birthday” by the Prince and Princess of Wales, who posted a message on their Instagram account with a photo of him from the monarch’s recent tour of Australia and Samoa.
The King regards his birthday as a… normal working day and continues his duties despite facing a personally difficult year in which both he and the princess of wales was diagnosed with cancer.
He started the day with a visit to a festival in Deptford, south London. The King will launch the first two Coronation Food Hubs on the first anniversary of the launch of the Coronation Food Project, designed to bridge the gap between food need and food waste in the UK amid the cost of living crisis. Queen Camilla who hoped to follow him, still recovering from a chest infection.
Gun salutes will be fired at Green Park and the Tower of London as part of the traditional celebrations, while bells will ring at Westminster Abbey where he was crowned king last year. The King, like his late mother Elizabeth II, celebrates two birthdays – November 14, which is the day he was officially born – and a public holiday that falls on the second Saturday in June.
Wednesday night walked the red carpet for the world premiere of “Gladiator II» meeting stars Denzel Washington, Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal. The King had earlier hosted a special celebrity reception at Buckingham Palace to honor the UK film and television industry.
He and Camilla, who was in attendance at part of the event, spoke to stars including actors Damian Lewis, Emily Mortimer and Lucien Laviscount, as well as the director of “The Gladiator” Sir Ridley Scott.
The King returned to public duties in April after being diagnosed with cancer in February. Since, traveled to France for the D-Day commemorations, hosted an upcoming state visit for the Emperor of Japan and toured Australia and Samoa with the Queen even though she is still undergoing outpatient cancer treatment.
