The Military Police stated that a man committed “self-extermination with an explosive” in Praça dos Três Poderes
The explosions recorded at , in Brasília, on Wednesday (13.Nov.2024) will be quickly investigated by the PF (Federal Police), so that the functioning of the Palácio do Planalto, STF (Federal Supreme Court) and Congress is guaranteed. The statement is from the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski.
“Federal public security forces are closely following the events that took place in the country’s capital on Wednesday night. [13.nov]and are prepared to ensure the full functioning of the constituted Powers. The Federal Police is working rigorously to quickly elucidate the motivation for the explosions in Praça dos Três Poderes, in front of the Federal Supreme Court, and in the vicinity of the National Congress”said the minister.
On Wednesday night (Nov 13), two explosions in Praça dos Três Poderes left one person dead and a car set on fire. The STF building was evacuated and the Chamber session was suspended. The Federal Police have already opened an investigation and the Civil Police are investigating the case.
A man’s body was found near the STF building. According to the Military Police of the Federal District, a “self-extermination with explosives” on site. The Civil Police identified the man as Francisco Wanderley Luiz. The same man was identified as the owner of the car that exploded in the parking lot located between the STF and Annex 4 of the Chamber of Deputies.
At the time of the explosions, the president (PT) was not at Palácio do Planalto, but at Palácio da Alvorada, which is 4 km from Praça dos Três Poderes. The (Institutional Public Security Office) carried out a sweep of the surroundings of Planalto after the explosions. “The sweep is being completed, Planalto is safe. Reinforced safety devices, no problem […] Reinforcement is being carried out around the perimeter, an internal sweep was carried out, we are carrying out an external sweep and nothing was found, we are safe for sure”said Marcos Amaro, GSI minister.
The director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, met with Lula at Palácio da Alvorada on Wednesday night (Nov 13). The two spoke by phone with the president of the STF, Luis Roberto Barroso. After the explosions, the minister also spoke with (Progressistas), vice-governor of the Federal District and exchanged messages with the governor, (MDB), who is currently in Italy.
