The president of the Liberal Party (PL), Valdemar Costa Neto, said that the man who exploded bombs and died in Praça dos Três Poderes, in front of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) building, this Wednesday (13), was not known from the party leadership and that the left is trying to associate the tragedy with the acts of January 8th.
“We don’t know the person. He was our candidate in 2020. They are trying to combine it with January 8th, it has nothing to do with it. Bolsonaro wasn’t even in the PL in 2020,” he said.
According to information provided to the press by the Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF), the man who exploded bombs and died in Praça dos Três Poderes, in front of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) building, in Brasília, was a locksmith Francisco Wanderley Luiz, 59 years old.
Francisco was a candidate for councilor in 2020 for PL in Santa Catarina. He contested the election under the name Tiu França, in Rio do Sul (SC), but was not elected. At the time, former president Jair Bolsonaro was a member of the PSL.
President of the PT tries to associate the case with January 8th
On Wednesday night, even with little information about the case, the national president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann, stated that the explosions were reminiscent of the acts of January 8th.
The president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Luís Roberto Barroso, has already admitted the possibility of the investigation being taken over by minister Alexandre de Moraes, if the investigations indicate a connection with the acts of January 8th.
“I will receive the survey. If there is a connection to an ongoing investigation, it will be distributed as a precautionary measure,” said Barroso.
Opposition repudiates attempt to associate with 8/1
The leader of the opposition in the Chamber, deputy Filipe Barros (PL-PR), shared on his social networks a note from the leadership repudiating the “lying narratives that, in a cowardly way, try to link President Bolsonaro and the Brazilian right to the author of the tragic episode registered in Brasilia”.
“The left, in addition to not sympathizing with a suicide bomber, wants to use the dead body, still lying on the asphalt, to achieve its political objectives and bury the Amnesty PL, demonstrating absolute disregard for the pain of the man’s family. At a time when Brazil is crying out for unity, we must fight for the truth to prevail over petty political interests and distorted narratives”, says another excerpt from the note.
The advisor and right-hand man of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Fabio Wajngarten, also commented on the case on social media.
“There are crazy people everywhere, across all political spectrums, fans of all teams, of all beliefs and religions. They come in all colors, all sizes, all genders, all nationalities, all tastes. There are crazy people who prefer knives, there are crazy people who prefer bombs. Adjectivizing, generalizing and associating is scoundrels and persecution”, said Wajngarten in a publication on X.
