Threatened with impeachment, Bolsonaro councilor Paulo Chuchu (PL), from , says that the case could boost his election as federal deputy in 2026.

“I had given up on electoral life, but I’m rethinking it, given this arbitrary process that I’m undergoing,” he says. He was a candidate for vice mayor in October on the Alex Manente (Citizenship) ticket, but was not elected.

Chuchu is accused of having threatened a journalist during an argument, which he denies. This Wednesday (13), the committee of the City Council that analyzes his impeachment said that the councilor missed the deadline to present his defense.

The parliamentarian states that he did not take a position because he has been in the USA since the beginning of the month. He first went to follow the American election in Florida and planned a visit to relatives. He states that he should have returned to the country now, but that his flight was canceled by the airline.

“I was not cited by the commission because I was not in Brazil. And this has to be done in person, it cannot happen electronically”, he states.

Chuchu says that upon returning to the country this week he will present his defense. “I have the right to full defense, and if this is not respected, I intend to take the issue to court. I am the victim of persecution just a few weeks before the end of my mandate”, he declares.
