Algerian who fled the PSP and recaptured in the Algarve opposes extradition to Germany

The Algerian citizen who escaped from a PSP van in Lisbon and was recaptured in the Algarve informed the Évora Court of Appeal this Thursday that he opposes extradition to Germany, revealed a source linked to the defense.

The same source indicated that the 36-year-old man claimed, during interrogation at the Évora Court of Appeal (TRE), that he was mistreated in Germany to justify the refusal of extradition to that country.

In a statement, the president of the TRE, judge Albertina Pedroso, said that “the detainee was presented at this Évora Court of Appeal to be subjected to interrogation under a European Arrest Warrant, and was heard”.

“Given the circumstances of the case, the respective prison was maintained and it was ordered that they be taken to the prison, where they will await the decision regarding their handover to the requesting state, after the presentation of the respective defense”, he said.

After interrogation in Évora, according to the source linked to the defense, Algerian citizen Abdelkader Eddouh was sent to a prison in the Algarve.

Also in a statement published on the website of the Évora Regional Attorney General’s Office, the Public Ministry (MP) highlighted that, after being heard at the TRE, it was determined that the man “await the further terms of the process deprived of liberty”.

Abdelkader Eddouh was arrested, on Monday, at Lisbon Airport, due to an arrest warrant issued by the German authorities for the crime of arson.

The detainee was taken, on Tuesday, by the PSP to the Lisbon Court of Appeal, having managed to remove one of his handcuffs and escape from the prisoner transport car, through the downtown streets, without being caught by the agents.

The man ended up being captured by the police, on Wednesday, at 9:40 am, in Estombar, in the municipality of Lagoa, in the Algarve, after a citizen gave the alert, and at the time of the arrest she still had the handcuffs in her possession, according to a statement from the Guard.
