15 Italian police officers were taken to the hospital emergency after the explosion.
Around 15 Italian police officers had to be taken to hospital on Friday after an improvised explosive device exploded near them during clashes with protesting students in central Turin. The agency ANSA informed about it, writes TASR.
According to reports, the home-made bomb, from which acrid fumes emanated after the explosion, was thrown at the police in front of the prefecture’s headquarters in Piazza Castello. Clashes broke out when police pushed back some of the youths who tried to break through the security cordon.
Students damaged police vehicles and displayed the Palestinian flag
Students also damaged several police vehicles in front of the newsroom of the state broadcasting company RAI, hitting them with sticks. In addition, the protesters took down the Italian flag and hung the Palestinian one in front of the entrance to the cinematography museum.
Students are marching in many Italian cities on Friday to protest against Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government, especially its education policies, against arms sales to Israel and in support of the Palestinians. At the demonstration in Milan, a photo of Meloniova splashed with red paint appeared, and in Rome, banners with inscriptions such as “Day without Meloniova” or “Let’s free the country”, wrote ANSA.
