Argentina was the only country to vote against a resolution on Thursday (14), at the United Nations General Assembly, which promotes the intensification of efforts to prevent and eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.
Of the 184 countries that participated in the vote, there were 170 votes in favor and 13 abstentions. Israel and the United States were in favor of the initiative, while Iran, Russia, Nicaragua and North Korea, among others, made up the list of countries that remained neutral in relation to the resolution.
A, on the other hand, took a stance against it after arguing that the resolution contains ambiguous terms such as “hate speech” and “disinformation” that could be used “abusively” to restrict the same freedom of expression “that they claim to protect”.
Days ago, it adopted the same position in a resolution on the rights of indigenous peoples, in which it also ended up being the only country to vote against.
