PARIS (Reuters) – France’s financial crimes prosecutor has called for former auto executive Carlos Ghosn and French Culture Minister Rachida Dati to stand trial following a corruption investigation, a judicial source said on Friday.

A judge must make a decision on the request.

Investigators were looking into consultancy fees that French culture minister Rachida Dati received from the Renault-Nissan automotive alliance. The alliance, which was chaired by Ghosn, hired Dati as a consultant after she left her role as justice minister to run for the European Parliament.

Dati has denied irregularities in the fees he received during that period and Ghosn, who fled Japan in a box aboard a private jet to Lebanon, has denied allegations of misconduct against him.

Ghosn, who has French, Lebanese and Brazilian citizenship, has not left Lebanon since 2019 because of an Interpol red alert issued by Japan.

Culture Ministry representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Renault representatives and Ghosn’s lawyer declined to comment.
