From Cairo to Tokyo: traveled for nine months, without boarding planes, and spent less than 20 euros a day

An Egyptian decided to go from Cairo to Japan without taking planes. He covered around 46 thousand kilometers over around 9 months and, on average, spent less than R$20 per day.

Omar Nok, a 30-year-old Egyptian, decided to challenge himself and travel from Cairo to Japan without using planes. During nine months, he covered around 46 thousand kilometers, spending, on average, less than R$20 per day. The journey included the help of many people who offered him rides, food and accommodation.

The trip included a variety of means of transport: cars, motorbikes, camels, horses, trains and boats, as well as many kilometers covered on foot. He left Cairo for Tokyo after 274 days, amassing thousands of followers on social media as he shared the adventure.

Before embarking on this expedition, Nok worked as a financial analyst at a multinational in Germany. He saved for years to make his dream come true and maintained a saving attitude throughout the trip.

Afghanistan proved to be the most economical country, with a daily spend of less than 5 euros for two weeks. Despite the different cultures and contexts he crossed, Nok guarantees that he never felt in danger and was always well received by the people he met along the way.
