The leader of the government in the Chamber of Deputies, José Guimarães (-CE), signaled his interest in running for the PT presidency at a meeting last Tuesday (12) of the coordination of the group Construindo um Novo Brasil, the majority in the party.
The other name mentioned within this wing is that of the mayor of Araraquara (SP), Edinho Silva.
In practice, the party will be led by whoever is chosen by the current. The decision should be made next year.
Two other candidates are already standing to succeed the current PT president, whose term ends in June 2025.
For the PT Movement, the second largest internal tendency, the Secretary of International Relations, Romanio Pereira, should compete. In addition to him, federal deputy Natália Bonavides, who ran for Mayor of Natal and went to the second round, will run for Articulação de Esquerda.
