Several arteries in the city of Olhão were flooded this Friday due to the intense rain that fell late in the morning, with greater incidence in the eastern (eastern) Algarve, said a Civil Protection source.
As a source from the Algarve District Emergency and Civil Protection Command told Lusa, the intense rain flooded several public roads in that city in the district of Faro, without causing any personal damage.
“Between 00:00 and 11:30, seven incidents were recorded in the region, but they were not serious and, at the end of the morning, in a short space of time, there were several localized floods in the city of Olhão”, he said.
According to the source, the affected areas are low points where a large concentration of water usually occurs when it rains heavily in a short space of time.
One of the flooded areas is a tunnel located under the railway line, on one of the city’s main avenues.
“For now we have no record of road closures or more serious situations”, concluded the Civil Protection source.
In Faro, there are records of tree falls and, also in the lee, in Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, in the municipality of Tavira, there were small floods.
