Isabel Ruth debuts in music at the age of 84 with the album “Português Suave”. The actress has a career spanning more than 60 years in theater, television and cinema, with appearances in more than one hundred films.
At 84 years old, Isabel Ruth decided to share with the public a passion she has had since she was a child, music. The actress released the album “Português Suave”, which brings together ten of the hundreds of poems she wrote over the years.
“I didn’t think about editing, I don’t consider myself a professional singer, but I love music and naturally I started to discover that I was making songs”, explains Isabel Ruth.
Isabel Ruth’s artistic career began in ballet at the age of 12, but it was in cinema that she stood out, in 1963, in “Os Verdes Anos” by director Paulo Rocha, with whom she worked several times.
Isabel Ruth has more than a hundred film appearances, almost ten with Manoel de Oliveira, but she has also worked in television and theater.
“I’m not a singer, but when I sing, I’m a singer and when I act, I’m an actress. I have many facets”, adds Isabel Ruth.
The actress has received several awards, including two Golden Globes, the first time in 2007 for her performance in “Vanitas” by Paulo Rocha and, the second time, in 2019 for the role “Anger” by Sérgio Trefaut, for which she also won a Sofia Prize.
In 2018, she was made Commander of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, by the then President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
