Red tea, also known as Pu-erh, although characterized by an earthy taste and not to everyone’s liking, is a treasure trove of valuable substances beneficial to health. It is primarily known for its great regulation of metabolism, slowing down the aging process and facilitating weight loss. Why else should you drink red tea and, importantly, how to brew it properly?

Health properties of red tea

Red tea is rich in antioxidants. They help fight free radicals responsible for the aging process, and also support the immune system. This is especially important especially during times of increased infections, and important for people who are exposed to chronic stress.

Regular drinking of red tea also benefits metabolism and digestive processes. In particular, Pu-erh is recommended for people who aim to lose weight. This tea cranks up the metabolism and promotes fat burning.

Why is it worth drinking Pu-erh on a regular basis? Red tea above all:

  • supports weight loss – it speeds up digestive processes and can help reduce body fat;
  • regulates cholesterol levels – regular drinking of red tea lowers LDL cholesterol, which promotes heart health;
  • acts as an antioxidant – the presence of polyphenols helps protect cells from damage and reduces the risk of developing chronic diseases;
  • improves liver function – red tea promotes detoxification of the body and supports liver function.

What does red tea help with?

Red tea is primarily known for its weight-loss supporting effect. Regular consumption of the brew helps reduce body fat, especially when combined with physical activity and a balanced diet. That’s not all, however, as the brew also supports other processes in the body.

In addition to weight loss, red tea:

  • regulates sugar levels – some studies indicate that regular drinking of Pu-erh tea can have a positive effect on stabilizing sugar levels, which is especially important for people with insulin resistance, but also those with type 2 diabetes;
  • cleanses the body – red tea improves the work of the kidneys and liver, thus supporting detoxification processes;
  • improves mood and concentration – the theine contained in red tea can act as a mild stimulant, which has a positive effect on concentration and improves mood.

When is the best time to drink red tea – in the morning or in the evening?

The best time to drink red tea is in the morning or the time immediately after a meal, especially if it was a hearty one. Thanks to its digestive-supporting properties, red tea infusion helps the body process the calories and fats consumed more efficiently.

Red tea should not be drunk on an empty stomach , as its intense flavor and properties can irritate the gastric mucosa. People sensitive to caffeine should be cautious and not drink it late in the evening, as it can have a stimulating effect and thus can cause sleep problems.

How to brew red tea properly?

Brewing red tea requires several steps to ensure that the infusion retains its flavor and health benefits.

Red tea should be brewed at 90-95 degrees Celsius and for 5 minutes covered. Boiling water should be avoided so that the valuable components of the infusion are not lost.

If you brew the tea in leaves, 2-3 g per cup is sufficient. A larger amount will make the infusion bitter and intense in taste.

Importantly – red tea can be brewed several times. Subsequent infusions will be milder in taste, but will also retain their health benefits. Red tea should not be sweetened with any sweeteners, nor should milk and lemon be added.
