North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Thursday participated in a test of suicide attack drones in one of the production plants. He ordered the facility to make the “mass production” of this type of unmanned aircraft a priority, reports TASR according to the AFP agency. Kim also oversaw a test of suicide drones earlier this year in connection with the rapidly developing military cooperation between the DPRK and Russia. This raises concerns that he received technical assistance for their development from Moscow.
Such weapons are also widely used in the war in Ukraine and the Middle East. “(Kim) emphasized the need to build a mass production system as soon as possible and start full-scale mass production,” quoted the North Korean state news agency KCNA.
Totalitarian North Korea also sent drones across the border with South Korea, which there they flew for hours, including key areas such as the metropolis of Seoul or the no-fly zone surrounding the office of the South Korean president, reminds Reuters. In response, South Korea deployed weapons to shoot down these drones.
North Korea and Russia recently ratified a comprehensive strategic partnership that includes a mutual defense pact. The DPRK also deployed its soldiers on the western Russian front lines in the war in Ukraine. South Korean and American officials have said that North Korean soldiers are fighting against Ukraine alongside Russian troops.
