Luiz Marinho called the scale “cruel” and stated that the government is sympathetic to the proposal
The Minister of Labor, backed down and defended this Thursday (14.Nov.2024) the end of the 6 X 1 working day. He stated that the president’s government Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has “great friendliness” for change and asks “serenity” does not debate.
Marinho was targeted at the beginning of the week for stating that “reducing working hours is fully possible and healthy, when it results from a collective decision”.
On social media this Thursday (Nov 14), however, Marinho He said he wanted to end the 6 x 1 work schedule, as he did with metalworkers. He was president of the ABC Metalworkers Union, in São Paulo.
According to him, the journey in which the employee works 6 days and takes 1 day off “it’s cruel” especially for women. He further stated that the measure would “very positive” for the economy.
“But this is where the role of negotiation, of collective agreement, of understanding comes into play, because setting timetables must be done at the negotiation table”he stated.

UNDERSTAND THE PEC
The project aims to reduce working hours to 36 hours per week, maintaining the daily working hours of 8 hours. Currently, the Federal Constitution defines an 8-hour working day, with a total weekly workload of 44 hours. The author of the PEC is the deputy (Psol-SP). She presented the project at Casa Baixa on May 1st. on Wednesday (Nov 13) the minimum number of 171 signatures to be registered. Here is it (PDF – 175 kB).
The PEC arose from the demand of the VAT (Life beyond Work) movement. The popular movement was founded by the councilor (Psol-RJ) and was his main campaign banner in the 2024 municipal elections. The first-term politician also articulated the PEC together with the deputy.
