US, Japanese and South Korean navies are participating in joint exercises south of the Korean peninsula from Wednesday to Friday. These are their most complex joint naval maneuvers to date and at the same time the last exercises before US President Joe Biden hands over office to Donald Trump. This is reported by TASR based on a Reuters report.
The naval exercises are held under the command of the USS George Washington aircraft carrier. Trilateral security cooperation was brokered in 2023 by incumbent US President Joe Biden in response to rising tensions in East Asia with China, Russia and North Korea.
Further exercises are planned for next year. Otit remains to be seen what attitude the newly elected US president will take towards the East Asian region, notes Reuters.
