Psol deputies asked this Thursday (14) for the shelving of the project that grants amnesty to those arrested for the acts of January 8, 2023. The request was forwarded to the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), after the attack on bomb at the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
In the document, the group requested that bill 2,858/2022 be declared impaired due to “loss of opportunity”. Prejudice results in the proposal being shelved without deliberation. The President of the House has the prerogative to close the process in this way.
For Psol deputies, the proposal “deserves to be declared impaired and shelved” due to the attack in Praça dos Três Poderes and also “due to the flagrant unconstitutionalities that cover the matter”. If this occurs, the author of the proposal can appeal to the plenary within five sessions.
The parliamentarians argue that the amnesty PL deals with “clear and flagrant impunity for criminals who committed all types of atrocities under the pretext of exercising their right to free expression of thought, compromising safety, mobility, work and physical and psychology of Brazilian citizens”.
Furthermore, they point out that “there is strong evidence” of a connection between Wanderley’s actions and the acts of January 8th.
“Keeping in progress a proposal that intends to approve an amnesty for such serious crimes would send a dangerous message that attacks on democracy can be forgiven without consequences, legitimizing the proliferation of such conduct, especially given the fact that there are parliamentarians who support such undemocratic acts and that the rejection of the matter by vote may not occur”, says the document.
At the end of October, Lira withdrew the project from the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) and ordered the creation of a special commission to analyze the text. In practice, the process was paralyzed.
The Psol stated that “the simple fact that it is kept in progress, can, at any time and for up to three legislatures, lead to it being considered, which can generate serious risk and instability, becoming a true ‘free pass’ for committing crimes, such as what happened last night.”
On the night of this Wednesday (13), locksmith Francisco Wanderley Luiz, known as Tiu França, exploded artifacts in front of the STF headquarters building. There was also an explosion in a car in the Chamber of Deputies parking lot. The 59-year-old man died near the “Justice” statue after detonating another artifact.
The deputies signed the request: Sâmia Bomfim (SP), Fernanda Melchionna (RS), Luiza Erundina (SP), Glauber Braga (RJ), Chico Alencar (RJ) and Tarcísio Motta (RJ).
