Before he died, Francis published a series of mixing political and religious statements. He was a locksmith and contested, for PL, the 2020 election under the name of the Tiü França ballot box, in Rio do Sul (SC). He was not elected.
Check out reactions from politicians and other authorities in Brasília.
Sad and serious. Sad for the loss of life and serious because it was an attack on an institution of the Republic, the Power of the Republic, and which must be investigated extremely quickly and with extreme rigor
The sad episode that shocked us all and, regrettably, resulted in the death of one person, demonstrates how much we must repudiate and discourage acts of violence and hate speech in our country
I vehemently reaffirm my total rejection of any act of violence
Some people went from indignation to pity, seeking to naturalize the absurdity [ao defender anistia ao 8/1]. They don’t see that they provide an incentive for the same type of behavior to occur again and again. They want to forgive without even condemning
It is up to us, civil servants and servants of constitutional and electoral justice, to continue our functions to preserve the necessary Brazilian democracy, which is not shaken by any act that may eventually seek to attack people, institutions or democratic functions.
Despite being an isolated event, and apparently caused by disturbances in the mental health of the person who, unfortunately, ended up passing away, it is an event that should lead us to reflect. It is past time for Brazil to once again cultivate an adequate environment so that different ideas can confront each other peacefully, and for the strength of arguments to be worth more than the argument of strength
In the attack on democracy, ‘wolves’ are never alone. There is always a ‘whistle’ to encourage them. What happened yesterday in Praça dos Três Poderes was yet another warning sign that, as long as these “whistles” remain, the democratic struggle does not allow for any kind of truce
What happened yesterday is not a fact isolated from the context. (…) but the context began way back when the ‘hate office’ began to distill hate speech against institutions, against the STF, mainly against the autonomy of the Judiciary
These extremist groups are active and need us to act forcefully. We understand that yesterday’s episode is not an isolated incident, but is connected to several other actions, which the Federal Police have been investigating recently.
Instead of assigning blame from one party to another, we would do well to reduce the temperature of the political debate, bringing back dialogue as a basic rule. (…) The isolated act of an unbalanced person is what it is: an absurdity
I regret and repudiate the sad and serious episodes of explosions that resulted in the death of a citizen yesterday in Brasília. Acts of violence should never be tolerated. We hope that the investigations will clarify what happened as quickly as possible.
