The Legislative Police of the Chamber of Deputies intends to suggest changes to the House’s security protocols after the explosions that occurred on Wednesday (13) night, in Praça dos Três Poderes and nearby areas. But there is already increased security.
One of the ideas is to restrict the main entrance to Congress, called the Headgear, to authorities. Today, it is publicly accessible, although, after January 8, 2023, all entrances will have metal detectors and x-rays.
According to the Legislative Police, the author of the attack, Francisco Wanderley Luiz, entered the Chamber through annex IV at 8:15 am on Wednesday, handed over a document, underwent an x-ray, went to the bathroom and left again.

Francisco’s car with explosives was in the public parking lot close to Annex IV, where most of the deputies’ offices are located.
With the help of the Brasília Military Police (DF), a sweep was carried out in the early hours of this Thursday (14) in the places where Francisco passed and nothing was found. In the morning, a sweep was carried out in all common areas of the Chamber and, with dogs from the Senate Legislative Police, a search was carried out in the basement and on the ground floor of Annex IV.
Also this Thursday morning, there were some controlled explosions in the public parking lot, two on suspicious devices, one to open Francisco’s car and another to open a kiosk he rented. Nothing was found at the kiosk. After these measures, civil servants and parliamentarians were able to return to work at noon.

Plenary session
At the time of the explosions, on Wednesday, a voting session was taking place in the Chamber plenary, which ended up being interrupted by deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), who was presiding over the proceedings.
“It’s not to boast. Everything may be under control out there. But I’m going to ask for someone from security to be here so that they can give the guidelines correctly, with the appropriate techniques, so that we can all be safe”, announced the deputy.
As new preventive scans must be carried out, visits to the National Congress were suspended from November 14th to 17th.
