About the fact that “little black” has many valuable properties no one needs to be convinced. However, it turns out that there is a healthier alternative to this drink. And it is not at all about tea, yerba mate or herbal infusions. According to a well-known nutritionist, the most benefits come from drinking a specific type of coffee.

When we hear the phrase “coffee”, aromatic brown beans usually come to mind. However, they gain their dark color only during roasting (roasting). In the beginning, they are naturally green. I mention this for a reason.

It is from such “early” beans, which have not been subjected to heat treatment, that the healthiest coffee is created, according to nutritionist Dr. Bartek Kulczynski. The finished brew is different from the classic “small black”. It is characterized by a lighter, slightly greenish color and herbal taste. It also has many more health-promoting properties. Check out how it works on the body.

What properties does green coffee have?

Green coffee has almost as much caffeine, as the traditional “small black”. Thus, it produces a similar stimulating effect. It eliminates fatigue and strengthens concentration, so we can more easily focus on the tasks at hand.

At the same time – as Dr. Bartek Kulczynski points out – it contains six times more chlorogenic acid than black coffee.

It is this ingredient that is largely responsible for the drink’s health-promoting effects, including stabilizing blood pressure levels and protecting the body against the development of cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, stroke and heart attack, for example.

Chlorogenic acid is also a powerful antioxidant. It neutralizes the harmful activity of free radicals. It increases cell sensitivity to insulin and lowers blood glucose levels. It also reduces “bad cholesterol” levels.

Slows down the aging process and strengthens the body’s defense mechanisms in the fight against infections and microorganisms. It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. In addition, it improves the work of the nervous system.

It improves psychomotor and executive functions. It can also aid weight loss. This is because it inhibits the accumulation of triglycerides in the liver and accelerates fat burning.

How to drink and brew green coffee?

Dr. Bartek Kulczynski advises using 1-2 teaspoons of green coffee per about 200 milliliters of water at 80-85 degrees Celsius. The drink should be brewed for 5 minutes. The optimal dose is 1-3 cups of the infusion per day. It is worth remembering that green coffee beans are very hard. Therefore, it is best to initially grind them in a mortar, and only then grind them in a grinder. You can also get beans in ground form on the market.

Who should not drink green coffee?

Contraindications for drinking green coffee infusion are cardiac arrhythmias chronic diseases of the digestive system and kidneys. It should also not be consumed by young children, pregnant and lactating women.
