Starch makes ironing easier, gives fabrics an elegant look and protects them from dirt. Learn how to make your own starch in the form of a sprayer, which will be ideal for ironing shirts, tablecloths or linens. Its homemade version is free of harmful substances present in commercial products. You can make it in as little as three minutes!

What is starch?

Starch is made from vegetable starch and water. Its main task is to make fabrics stiff, which makes ironing much easier. Starch also acts on fabrics as a natural protective layer, which prevents dust and dirt from settling on them. It is especially recommended for natural fibers such as cotton, linen and bamboo.

Unlike commercial ironing preparations, homemade starch does not contain harmful chemicals. Its natural composition makes it a safe solution for people who are looking for ecological alternatives and may be allergic to bought specifics. Preparation of starch at home is extremely fast and inexpensive.

Recipe for homemade starch

To prepare homemade spray starch, you only need three ingredients. Here is a simple recipe:

Ingredients of homemade starch:

  • 1 tablespoon of corn flour;
  • 0.5 l of cold water;
  • a few drops of essential oil.

Preparation of homemade starch:

In a bowl, mix corn flour with cold water, until the ingredients are completely combined, forming a milky liquid. If you want the homemade clothes spray to have a pleasant fragrance, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. This will give you not only smooth, but also fragrant clothes.

Pour the finished mixture into a spray bottle and label it carefully with “Starch”, adding the information to shake the bottle before each use, as the starch tends to sink to the bottom. If the atomizer gets clogged, all you need to do is heat the starch mixture, until it boils, then cool and pour it back into the bottle.

How to use homemade starchmal?

Using starchmal makes ironing significantly easier. However, remember to shake the bottle before each use to mix the ingredients. Before ironing, spray the spray on your clothes from a distance of about 20 cm. Concentrate especially on hard-to-reach areas, such as collars or cuffs.

Leave the starch for a few seconds to better penetrate the material. Then iron the clothes with a heated iron according to the clothing manufacturer’s recommendations. The starch will make it easier to guide the iron and help remove stubborn creases.
