Internal security circuit images recorded Francisco Wanderley Luiz, author of the bomb attack in Praça dos Três Poderes, entering the Chamber of Deputies hours before dying in the explosion of one of the devices used in the attack.
The videos were released by the House on Thursday night (14). One of the recordings shows Wanderley entering Annex 4, at 8:15 am, on Wednesday (13). Most of the deputies’ offices are in this building.
The Chamber’s press office reported that the man went to the bathroom located in Annex 4 and left shortly afterwards. He was wearing a t-shirt, jeans, black flip-flops and a white hat.
After arriving at the location, he walked to the identification desk, where he was attended to and passed through the metal detector uneventfully. In front of the detectors and x-ray, members of the Legislative Police observed the people who entered.
Wanderley passes the servers at 8:16 am. Among the videos released by the Chamber, there are no images of the man leaving the building.
“The perpetrator of the explosion in Praça dos Três Poderes was in Annex IV of the Chamber this Wednesday morning. He went in at 8:15 am, went to the bathroom and soon left. A sweep was carried out in all the places where he passed and nothing was found”, said the Casa’s press office, in a statement.
Sweeps were carried out on the Chamber’s premises throughout the morning, including with sniffer dogs. “No bomb was found. Other scans are planned as a preventive measure,” according to the statement.
Videos show new angles of the car explosion
One of the explosions occurred in the car used by Wanderley, which was parked next to Annex 4. The device in the vehicle was activated remotely at around 7:29 pm. The following recording captured the explosion.
Another image shows part of the parking lot, the camera is adjusted and focuses on the car. Soon after, it is possible to see firefighters trying to control the flames with extinguishers.
While the team was working in the Annex 4 parking lot, Wanderley threw two artifacts at the statue of Justice in front of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). He was approached by one of the Court’s security guards.
Moments later, Wanderley lies down on the ground, lights a third device and places the explosive on his own head. Preliminary information from the investigation indicates that he died at the scene.
