With the new Local Accommodation regime in force, the government returned to city halls the power to suspend, or not, new licenses and many municipalities are opting to put a brake on activity. But Cascais City Hall will continue to allow new registrations. Nuno Piteira Lopes, vice-president of the municipality, explains why and talks about the strategy to solve the housing problem in the municipality. Listen to the podcast here

Lisbon and Porto have already announced that they will temporarily suspend new AL registrations. And other city halls will follow the same path. In Cascais, a municipality where the average property price more than doubled in 2023, new registrations will continue to be allowed.
