Teenagers make bad decisions, it’s a law of nature in some ways. Adolescent unreason is essentially the definition of puberty, but the presence of an audience and the prospect of (supposed) fame also play a role in the emergence of adolescent stupidity. So it’s no wonder that recklessness reigns in the selfie and social media culture – sometimes with fatal consequences: At the beginning of November, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old crashed into a pedestrian bridge while “subway surfing” in Vienna and later died from their injuries. A young “film team” made up of two other boys escaped with their lives, slightly injured.
