The intense rain that fell this morning in the Algarve caused several floods. The Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command reported at least 15 incidents resulting from the storm.
The Minister of Internal Administration visited the areas affected by the floods in the Algarve this Thursday. Margarida Blasco calls on the population to follow the authorities’ recommendations, at a time when the weather is expected to worsen.
In a statement, it informs that the Government is attentive to weaknesses on the ground and that, therefore, the minister decided to “check the situation locally”.
“The Minister of Internal Administration launched an appeal to raise awareness among the population about the possibility of worsening weather conditions and, in this sense, highlighted that it is very important to follow the instructions and recommendations of the authorities and pay attention to the warnings issued by the competent authorities” , says the note.
Margarida Blasco met with the mayors of Albufeira and Loulé, with the President of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission, with the Regional Commander of Civil Protection of the Algarve, the Second Commander of the Algarve Public Security Police, the Commander of the Guard National Republican of the Territorial Command of Faro and the Commander of the Emergency, Protection and Relief Unit of the National Republican Guard of the Algarve.
The Executive guarantees that the priority is to ensure the safety of populationswhich is why it is “fundamental to coordinate efforts for a quick and effective response”.
This Friday, one is expected. The most significant impact should occur in Baixo Alentejo and Algarve, Setúbal and Lisbon.
Floods in the Algarve: traders account for the losses
The intense rain that fell this morning in the Algarve caused several floods in downtown Albufeira. In addition to the streets, the basements of some bars and restaurants were flooded and there were even establishments closing.
The Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command reported, at least 15 occurrences arising from the storm– no injuries reported. There was also flooded roads in the municipalities of Olhão, Silves and Faro.
