A group of approximately 30 parents broke into a school for children with special educational needs near the Italian city of Naples on Thursday morning and attacked a teacher. The reason was allegedly spreading rumors about the teacher’s behavior towards some students, unnamed sources told ANSA on Saturday, writes TASR.
The incident took place in the Scanzano district of the port city of Castellamare di Stabia in southern Italy. The city is located on the coast of the Gulf of Naples, near the archaeological park of Pompeii and the Vesuvius volcano. The teacher’s parents were also at the school and tried to defend her. Her father suffered a broken wrist, the assaulted teacher suffered a concussion from repeated blows to the head. The attack was stopped only by the police who were called.
The number of attacks on school employees by students and parents has been increasing recently, writes ANSA. According to a report by the research agency Eurispes published in February up to 25 percent of Italian teachers have been the target of at least one attack during their careers.
