The national president of the Progressives Party (PP), Ciro Nogueira, announced that he will have a “eye-to-eye conversation” with the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), to clarify differences that arose during the municipal elections. The statement was made during his participation in the program WW on CNN Brasil this Friday (15).
Nogueira expressed his discomfort with some of Tarcísio’s positions in the interior of São Paulo during the elections, although he praised the governor’s performance in the capital. “I already registered at the time my discomfort with some of his positions in the interior of São Paulo, he had a very positive situation in the capital, he was a big winner in the capital”, stated the PP president.
Support for Bolsonaro for 2026
Asked about his support for Tarcísio de Freitas as a possible candidate for President in 2026, Nogueira was emphatic: “My candidate in 2026 for President of the Republic is Jair Messias Bolsonaro”. He stressed that he will fight to the end to recover the former president’s political rights.
However, Nogueira recognized Tarcísio’s potential, describing him as “the strongest candidate” and =”the candidate who represents the population in the polls with the greatest chance of beating President Lula”. Despite this, he emphasized that this discussion has not yet taken place and that they will wait until the end for Bolsonaro’s possible candidacy.
The PP leader also praised Tarcísio’s work as governor of São Paulo, indicating that he should be a candidate for reelection, unless there is a change of direction with Bolsonaro’s possible candidacy.
