Diego Forlán, former Uruguayan international, made his professional tennis debut last Wednesday, aged 45, at the Challenger in Montevideo. After retiring from football in 2017/18, the former player has used his retirement to pursue his passion for tennis, and his reflexes and skills at the net were remarkable throughout the game.
Forlán played in the doubles variant alongside Federico Coria (former world number 49). Although the pair were defeated by a Bolivian team, with 6-1 and 6-2, the former footballer showed good qualities, such as a powerful smash, an impressive amorti volley and even a left passing shot.
His performance, although it did not guarantee victory, highlighted the talent that still persists, even off the field.
