The proposal is being processed in Congress with the intention of granting amnesty to those involved in the coup attack on January 8, 2023 — and, for allies, also Bolsonaro later — and was criticized by ministers of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) after Wednesday’s attack ( 13) in . Eduardo Bolsonaro stated that Amnesty’s PL is “essential for national pacification and the reestablishment of institutional normality” in the country.
The parliamentarian cited three points that, for him, would demonstrate an attempt to instrumentalize the suffering of the family of , the author of the attack.
According to him, there was an “act of suicide”, and “not an attempt to attack the Powers”. He also mentioned that Francisco was a candidate for councilor for the PL in 2020 when Bolsonaro was not in the party and on a ticket that had a PDT. And he said that, in messages on his social networks, the author of the attack “showed deep dissatisfaction with the political polarization in the country”, expressing rejection of Bolsonaro and Lula.
“This opportunistic use of this tragedy, without any empathy for the pain of a family that has just lost a loved one and the shock of millions of Brazilians, is a worrying reflection of a political discourse that has lost touch with respect and dignity” , said Eduardo.
The federal deputy concluded the note by stating that “Brazilian society deserves a true, fair debate based on the reality of the facts” and criticized the “manipulation of tragic events to harm a reconciliation project”.
According to him, this attitude represents an “act of dishonesty” repudiated by the PL.
