The ‘Vai Ter Gorda’ fan movement is holding an event this Sunday (17) to protest the lack of availability of shirt sizes for the main teams in Bahia, Bahia and Vitória. The demonstration takes place on the blocks on the edge of Rio Vermelho.
The initiative came from fans’ dissatisfaction at not being able to find sizes suitable for overweight women in the stores where official shirts are sold. “We always go through this in department stores and, even when we want to support our favorite team, they don’t have them in our size, and we need to use men’s shirts. People don’t understand how this hurts and hurts”, explains the group, in a note.
In April, taking advantage of the period in which Mother’s Day is celebrated, the fans held a demonstration through a photo shoot. All dressed in Bahia and Vitória shirts, they posed alongside their children as a way of drawing attention to the cause and the fight against fatphobia.
“Our intention is to break the pattern and draw clubs’ attention to the bodies of fat female fans who, often, to wear their team’s shirt, need to adapt male models”, said the creator of the ‘Mothers of Bavi’ exhibition , Paulo Arcanjo, at the time.
