In Portugal, green cars are less likely to be involved in road accidents. Will there be a relationship?
A cor of a automobile has any influence on the probability of having a accident on the road? There are those who say that this association is ridiculous, there are those who think so.
There is the idea that brightly colored vehicles are safer. Because they are easier to spot in conditions of reduced visibility, especially that. A dark car goes unnoticed in more complicated conditions.
carVertical, an automotive data company, carried out a study and identified the safest car colors in Portugal. It analyzed the number of accidents between August 2023 and August 2024, in 15 countries.
Focusing on Portugal, cars verdes were considered the safer: 37.9% had some type of damage. In a statement sent to ZAP, carVertical suggests that green is a different color, which makes cars more visible on the road. Therefore, they are safer in different driving environments.
In second place in security come the models silver/grey (42.9% with damage) – neutral tones tend to blend less with certain pavements, which can help drivers spot them more easily on the road.
The cars white (45%) appear in third place. White reflects more light and gives greater visibility.
At the opposite extreme are the most dangerous – cars brown, with 61.9% of vehicles damaged. Brown stands out negatively, probably because the earthy tones blend with the natural landscape – dirt roads, forests, or autumn landscapes, etc. –, which reduces your visibility.
The cars blue they also recorded a considerable damage rate (53.1%), appearing in second place among the most accidents. They may be less safe in certain conditions, such as cloudy skies or bodies of water, where the color blends into the background, making them difficult to detect.
The cars red were close, with 51.8% of damage verified in this analysis. In the middle was the color black (50,2%).
For many years, the most used colors in the automotive market have been: black, white and gray (silver).
