The Venezuelan Public Ministry confirmed on Friday (15) the death of Jesús Manuel Martínez Medina, a member of the opposition party Vente Venezuela, who had been in prison since August 2 accused of having participated in the
Medina’s death was denounced on Thursday (14) by opposition leaders.
In a statement, the Public Ministry of Venezuela said the opponent was serving a preventive detention measure in a hospital in the state of Anzoátegui and that “he received due medical care and was provided with medications and other treatments that his state of health justified,” adding that the opponent suffered from diabetes.
The institution added that it “has sought to guarantee due process, effective judicial protection and other rights” to the deceased, as well as to all detainees.
On Thursday, opposition and opposition leaders separately denounced Martínez’s death.
Machado said he “died due to the inhumane conditions in which he was held hostage” in a “dungeon” after being detained “without a search warrant and without reason.”
González stated that the opponent died without medical care, medication and urgent transfer to a health center.
A CNN consulted the Public Ministry about what the opponents said in relation to this matter and is awaiting a response.
