Communism trampled on human rights and discriminated against its citizens for four decades. This was pointed out by political prisoners of the Union of Anti-Communist Resistance on the occasion of this week’s anniversary of the Gentle Revolution, which led to the fall of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia.

“It was mainly about those who did not accept the ideology of communism, did not profess a materialistic worldview, did not betray their faith in God and their hope for state independence. Communist courts had 250 people executed and over 71,000 sent to prisons,” they concluded.

According to them, the gentle revolution was mainly the culmination of the resistance of political prisoners against the regime. “Therefore, we consider appropriating the merits or mediating only the so-called faces of November,” they pointed out.

In this context, the representatives of former political prisoners appealed to have representation in every public body, especially in councils at the government office, where human rights are discussed. “Political prisoners were both the object and the subject of the human rights agenda in the underground during the communist totalitarianism. We are therefore symbolically taking the human rights agenda back under our tutelage,” added.
