The Federal Supreme Court (STF) evaluates “additional security measures” to guard against episodes like the one that occurred last Wednesday (13), when a man exploded bombs in Praça dos Três Poderes and committed suicide by exploding one of the artifacts against himself, in front of the Court building.
Information about the internal discussion in the STF regarding new security measures was released by Folha de São Paulo, this Friday (15).
Currently, the STF has a video monitoring system that defines visual security barriers.
It works like this: When someone exceeds a certain limit, the system alerts security guards about movement through light signals. The system also has a facial recognition tool.
The STF also feeds its own database of people that the Court considers to be at potential risk of “attacking” the STF.
STF decided to reinstall bars
After last week’s episode, the STF decided to return, for an indefinite period, with the bars that delimit the security space of the Supreme Court building.
“It’s a shame that a terrorist act like this prevents the square from returning to the people as it should be”, said the president of the STF, Luís Roberto Barroso, about the measure.
According to Folha, the Military Police (PM) offered the STF to share a database to improve the facial recognition system, but the Court is still evaluating whether to accept the proposal.
On Thursday (14), during a meeting with ministers Roberto Barroso and Alexandre de Moraes, the executive secretary of Public Security of the Federal District, Alexandre Patury, confirmed the reinforcement of patrolling in the central region of Brasília and stated that, despite After the incident, the Esplanada dos Ministérios remains the “safest place” in the country.
