Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaja arrived in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on Saturday for negotiations on the deepening military alliance between Russia and North Korea, including the deployment of North Korean soldiers to the war in Ukraine. TASR informs according to the AP agency.

They also discuss further sanctions against Russia and deep concerns about military cooperation

He is planning a meeting with Ukrainian department partner Andrih Sybih, whom he plans to assure of Japan’s “strong support” for Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion. The subject of the negotiations are also other sanctions against Moscow, the Japanese Ministry of Diplomacy said.

At the top of the agenda, however, are Japan’s “deep concerns” about growing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, the ministry added.

After arriving in Kyiv, according to the AFP agency, Iwaja pointed out that the deployment of North Korean soldiers in Ukraine has an “extremely significant impact” on security in East Asia.

“This will not only deepen the seriousness of the situation in Ukraine, but it will also have extremely significant consequences for the security situation in East Asia… We are seriously concerned about this development and strongly condemn it,” he added.

North Korea and Russia recently ratified a comprehensive strategic partnership that includes a mutual defense pact. The DPRK also deployed its soldiers on the western Russian front lines in the war in Ukraine. South Korean and American officials have repeatedly said that North Korean soldiers are fighting against Ukraine alongside Russian troops.
