Olhão and Tavira are the municipalities most affected by the intense rains that have been felt in the Algarve. A woman had to be rescued from a stream and a train derailed due to falling rocks.
The accident occurred with a regional train which derailed at around 7 am on the stretch between Fuzeta and Olhãoas reported in the online newspaper.
A Algarve line is cut on this stretch and passenger transport is being carried out by “road transfer”, informs CP – Comboios de Portugal on its website.
“The rail connection between Vila Real de Santo António and Fuzeta, and between Olhão and Faro continues to be carried out by train”, CP also informs.
The derailment occurred due to “stone remains” following the intense rains that have been felt in the last few hours in the eastern Algarve, as Sul Informação adds.

Two homeless people and woman saved from river in Olhão
A woman was rescued after falling into the Alfandanga riverin Olhão, one of the areas most affected by the intense rain that fell in the Algarve in the last 24 hours.
Civil Protection source revealed to Lusa the woman was rescued by peopleand was then rescued by the Tavira life support ambulance from the National Institute of Medical Emergency, and transported to the Algarve Local Health Unit.
On Friday, and according to the same source, two elderly people of French nationality they were left homeless in Castro Marim due to bad weather. They have already been relocated by the city hall to a hotel.
