Trump names Steven Cheung White House communications director

In the previous Republican government (2017-2021), Cheung worked as director of strategic response

The President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Friday the appointment of Steven Cheung as presidential advisor and communications director at the White House.

Through a statement, Trump announced the appointment of his presidential campaign’s former communications director to this position.

In the previous Republican government (2017-2021), Cheung worked as director of strategic response.

It is not yet known, however, who will act as spokesperson for the White House, one of the most visible faces of the United States government.

In the same statement, Trump announced the appointment of Sergio Gor as advisor to the President and director of the presidential personnel office.

Gor was previously executive director of Winning Team Publishing, and also ran Right For America, a fundraising committee for the Trump campaign.

“Steven Cheung and Sergio Gor have been trusted advisors since my first presidential campaign in 2016 and continued to champion ‘America First’ principles throughout my first term, until our historic victory in 2024,” Trump declared.

The future North American President, who will take office on January 20, 2025, has announced in recent days around 20 names that will be part of his Government.

Among them, Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense and Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security, as well as tycoon Elon Musk to lead a new government efficiency office.

The Republican also appointed Susie Wiles as his chief of staff, John Ratcliffe as director of the CIA (Foreign Secret Service Agency), Elise Stefanik as ambassador to the UN and, as ‘border czar’, Tom Homan – considered the brain behind the controversial policy of separating migrant families on the border with Mexico, in Trump’s first term.

The 78-year-old billionaire and the conservative camp achieved a triple electoral victory on November 5: in the presidency and in both houses of Congress – Senate and Chamber of Deputies –, reinforcing the ‘resounding’ political return of the former Republican president.

In the presidential elections on November 5, Donald Trump also won the popular vote, against his Democratic opponent, the incumbent vice president, Kamala Harris, with 50.2% of the votes, according to NBC News.

And all seven decisive states (‘swing-states’, states that could tip the scales one way or the other) fell into his lap: Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada and Arizona.

Controlling Congress will make the task easier for the 45th and soon-to-be 47th US president, who has promised to adopt radical measures, including mass deportations of migrants, tax cuts and deregulation.
