WASHINGTON, USA (FOLHAPRESS) – Donald Trump appointed three lawyers who worked on the cases he is facing in court to relevant positions in the next government.

One of them, Todd Blanche, defended the Republican in New York, in the case over the alleged bribery of porn actress Stormy Daniel. The president-elect stated on Thursday (14) that he intends to appoint him as assistant secretary of the Department of Justice, that is, number 2 to the controversial Mark Gaetz, if he is confirmed.

The body is the equivalent of the Brazilian Public Ministry and acts in favor of the American public interest in law enforcement. Under his command are several important agencies, such as the FBI, the American federal police, and the DEA, anti-drug. Blanche is a former New York prosecutor.

Trump was convicted of having falsified business records to cover up payments to Daniels and thus prevent her from revealing during the 2016 campaign that she had allegedly had a sexual relationship with the businessman in 2006. The payment of US$130,000 was made by the former lawyer and Trump’s “handyman,” Michael Cohen. The judge handling the case, in which Trump faces 34 charges, still needs to read the sentence or decide to annul it. This is expected to happen next Tuesday (19).

Emil Bove, another Trump lawyer in the criminal sphere, was appointed as principal secretary of the associated Department of Justice, also working alongside Gaetz. The president-elect stated that he will serve as acting attorney general while Blanche goes through the Senate confirmation process.

“Emil prosecuted terrorists and international drug traffickers as Chief of the National Security Unit in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, served as a law clerk to two federal judges, and graduated with honors from Georgetown University Law Center. Emil will fill us with pride as, together, we make America great again,” said the president-elect.

Another Trump supporter, John Sauer, was appointed to be the equivalent of the United States attorney general to serve on Supreme Court cases. The lawyer defended the thesis of presidential immunity in the Supreme Court, guaranteeing a victory for the Republican in cases in which he is accused of trying to reverse the election results.

“Most recently, John was the lead attorney who represented me at the Supreme Court in the Trump v. Trump case. United States, achieving a historic victory over presidential immunity, which was instrumental in defeating the unconstitutional ‘lawfare’ campaign against me and the entire Maga Movement [sigla em inglês para “faça a América grandiosa novamente”, slogan do presidente eleito]”, said Trump in a statement distributed to the press.

The thesis defended by Sauer was partially accepted by the highest court in the United States in July. According to the understanding, some degree of immunity would be granted to American presidents for crimes committed in office.

The defense adopted the strategy to try to nullify the criminal proceedings in which the Republican is accused of trying to reverse the 2020 election, when he was at the head of the government. The question is whether it applies to common crimes, like that of Stormy Daniels, something that lawyers seek to achieve.
