Boris Johnson distances himself from some of Donald Trump’s ideas but highlights the future US president’s firmness.
Since Donald Trump presidential elections in the USA, the question immediately began to spread: and now?
Especially in , since Trump is clearly against sending so many weapons, so much support, to the Ukrainians – in a war against his “friend” Vladimir Putin.
But the same question also arises in the USA and… in Europa. For reasons yet to be explained in detail, the future president of the USA is not exactly the best friend of Europeans.
The day after the elections, MEP Marta Temido: “We know how little friendship Trump has for the European Union, for European institutions. Trump doesn’t like the European Union and will make every effort to undermine our image, our values, our presence in the world.”
But now a different opinion emerges from an influential European politician: Boris Johnson.
In an interview with the magazine, the former British Prime Minister began to distance of ideas from the future US president.
“These comparisons are misleading. For example, I clearly disagree with the tariffs (customs) that Trump promises. I find this approach to commerce reprehensible and eccentric; It won’t be good for the US or the world.”
“Secondly, you will not find a British politician, least of all in the modern Conservative Party, who supports their positions on the inauguration of armas or the abortion”, continued.
Furthermore, Boris Johnson recalled that he “didn’t appreciate” the invasion of Capitol in 2021: “When you lose an election, you leave the scene. Trump didn’t do that. I found this very sad and immoral. I told him and repeated it many times.”
After these reservations, he began to change his speech: “However, there are areas in which I think the left-wing media misses what Trump can bring to today’s world.”
The English politician thinks Donald Trump can do something important on a current “fundamental issue”: the way we defend democracy and freedom around the world.
A war in Ukraine is “the final test for all of us”, between Europe, France, Great Britain, “but, at this moment, none of us are doing enough” – and remember that Trump guaranteed that he will end the war within 24 hours when he returns to the White House.
Therefore, Boris Johnson believes that the “firm” of Trump’s policies may to help on essential issues in global geopolitics.
And shoots: “It will be better than you think”.
