The Ukrainian president, , stated this Friday (15) that “the war will end sooner” under the president’s mandate, praising his recent conversation with the republican, despite fears that he could reduce the support of the . “There is no doubt that the war will end sooner with the policies of the team that will lead the White House. This is their approach, their promise to society”, declared Zelensky in an interview with the Ukrainian media outlet Suspenseful. “The war will end, but we don’t know the exact date,” he added. Zelensky stated that he had a “constructive interaction” with Trump during a telephone conversation they had after the Republican’s victory in the United States presidential election.
The president-elect “listened to the foundations on which we stand. I haven’t heard anything that goes against our position,” he said. Trump, who has already questioned the tens of billions of dollars in American military aid going to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in February 2022, has boasted that he could end the war in a day, although without explaining how. This Friday, he reiterated his promise to work “very hard with Russia and Ukraine” because “this needs to end”. Ukraine fears that US support will weaken at an extremely delicate time for its troops at the front or that it will be forced to accept a deal that involves territorial concessions to Ukraine.
