The Ukrainian president says he had a “good interaction” with the Republican and thanked him for the American help

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky (Servant of the People, center), stated on Friday (15.Nov.2024) that he believes the war with Russia will end “faster” with Donald Trump (Republican Party) of the United States.

“There is no specific date, but with the policy of the team that will now take over the White House, the war will end sooner. This is their approach, their promise to American society.”he said. The statements were made in an interview with Ukrainian radio.

Zelensky also stated that he had a good interaction with Trump during the election and when he called in November to congratulate him on his election victory.

“He said he wants to end the war, that he wants to help. He is on the side that supports Ukraine, values our strength, integrity and courage. In other words, the atmosphere in our conversations has been good so far. Let’s see what it will be like in the future”these.

Asked about the necessary conditions for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, the Ukrainian president stated that the country cannot be “alone” and it needs to be “forte”.

“What kind of negotiation can there be with a murderer? If we speak directly to Putin, to an assassin, under current conditions, without the reinforcement of important elements, this would be a defeat for Ukraine right from the start. There is nothing to be done in negotiations from a weak position.”these.

He further stated that Ukraine made it clear, in conversations with Trump, Joe Biden (Democratic Party) and European leaders, that Ukraine “sit down and listen rhetoric” does not work for an eventual dialogue with the Russian government.

Here are other highlights from the interview:

  • US aid: “We certainly appreciate the bipartisan support. Democrats and Republicans overall approved $175 billion to $177 billion in various forms of aid. If you asked me how much of this we actually received, I wouldn’t go into details, but I would say that we didn’t receive half of it”;
  • Vladimir Putin: “I think Putin doesn’t want peace. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to negotiate with a leader. For him, this means breaking political isolation. It is advantageous for him to sit down and talk, but not to reach an agreement.”
