On Sunday, French police shot dead a drunken man who had previously threatened and shouted “Allahu akbar” on the outskirts of Paris. informs TASR according to the AFP agency.
“Allahu akbar” means “God is the greatest” in Arabic and some Islamist extremists use the term as a battle cry – despite the fact that it is actually a central religious formula of Islam that has been used by Muslims around the world for centuries.
It follows from the initial information about the incident that the man was carrying a dummy gun and was “very drunk,” the unnamed source said. Police were called to the southeastern Paris suburb of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges at around 6 a.m. after an armed man was banging on the door, police sources said.
The man then threatened the police by “pointing a handgun and shouting ‘Allahu Akbar'”. One of the policemen then pulled out his gun and shot the man. Some sources say that the policeman fired three times, but only hit the man once. The entire incident was filmed on a police camera.
The man, in his 30s, “apologized for terrorism” in 2019, police added. The policeman who shot him was tested for alcohol and drugs with negative results. In 2022, 28 people died as a result of police actions in France, 22 of them were shot dead.
