The Attorney General of Minas Gerais, president of the CNPG (National Council of Attorneys General of the Public Ministry), organizes a caravan for a three-day event in Belgium, with support and resources from public bodies and private companies.
The participation of STF minister Gilmar Mendes, PGR Paulo Gonet, and STJ ministers Rogério Schietti, Joel Ilan Paciornik and João Otávio de Noronha are expected.
From the 24th to the 26th of this month, they will debate with international experts “The Transformation of Law in the Digital and Climate Era“, at the Steigenberger Wiltcher’s Hotel (daily rates from 291.34 Euros to 1,119.34 Euros).
Tickets will cost 300 Euros (for members of State careers), 500 Euros (lawyers) and 800 Euros (general public).
Jarbas says that “the idea is to open an international intercession for public ministries, especially state ones, since everything previously went through the Federal Public Ministry.”
“I created our international affairs secretariat. We are going to expand our horizons”, says Jarbas Soares.
Several state Public Ministries should not have representatives at the symposium. Some understand that it is not the role of the law enforcement officer to promote these events.
The Minas MP takes care of choosing Jarbas Soares’ successor. This Monday (18), there will be a vote to form the triple list. Commenting on the event is avoided so as not to interfere in the electoral process.
The Attorney General of São Paulo, Paulo Sérgio de Oliveira e Costa, will not participate in the seminar in Belgium. The São Paulo PGJ did not comment.
The symposium is sponsored by the Federal Government, Caixa Econômica Federal, Fundação Dom Cabral and Unifenas, among other entities.
The caravan is supported by Cedro Participações, owned by businessman Lucas Prado Kallas. He is the owner of the jet in which Jarbas hitched a ride twice, a fact revealed by the magazine Piauí. In 2008, Kallas was arrested during Operation João de Barro, by the Federal Police.
In May of this year, the Sheet revealed that the deputy inspector general of the MP of Minas Gerais, Mauro Flávio Ferreira, filed representation offered by nine prosecutors against Jarbas Soares.
Also supporting the Belgian symposium are the companies PX Ativos Judicials, which works in anticipating the values of legal actions, and Oncoclinícas & Co., from Minas Gerais.
The CNPG event was organized in partnership with the Institute of Applied Legal Studies (IEJA), a private entity, based in Lago Sul, in Brasília. The opening lecture will be given by Fabiane de Oliveira, founder and president of IEJA.
With a PhD in Law from USP, she was general secretary of the STF under Ricardo Lewandowski. Fabiane highlights in her CV having been chief advisor to the Senate for the purposes of impeachment of former President of the Republic Dilma Rousseff (2016).
In October, Jarbas Soares was criticized for having been one of the organizers of a cocktail party on Ilha Fiscal, in Guanabara Bay, a meeting that preceded the 2nd CNPG Congress, in the FGV auditorium.
“I feel free to do the things I think are appropriate. I dedicated 35 years of my life to the Public Ministry, I’m proud of this. I have the recognition of my class and institutions. Criticism will always occur”, says Jarbas Soares.
