First Lady Janja Lula da Silva referred to what happened in the Praça dos Três Poderes with “beast who ended up killing himself with fireworks”. The speech was made during , a G20 event this Saturday (16.Nov.2024), in Rio.
The president’s wife (PT) was at the hearing of the Combating Disinformation panel. Janja was not part of the debate, but made some statements to the audience.
Janja defended the regulation of social networks and praised the performance of STF (Supreme Federal Court) minister Alexandre de Moraes. He declared that he is a “great partner” in the fight against disinformation and stated that the explosions in Brasília show the “difficult” scenario faced by the magistrate.
“We invited Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who is a great partner on this issue of fake news. As difficult as what he is facing is, because of what happened in Brasília. Unbelievably it happened in Brasília this week. The beast there ended up killing himself with fireworks, but whatever. It’s incredible”, said Janja.

Suicide bomber artifacts
Until now, although the Federal Police and other security bodies speak of “bombs” e “explosives”, The images at the time of the explosions indicate that Francisco Wanderley Luiz used fireworks that need to be lit by accessing the fuse with a lighter or match. At the end of his solitary attack, he lay down on one of these artifacts, placed under his head, and detonated it, dying afterwards.
In the bomber’s car, left in a parking lot adjacent to the Annex 4 building of the Chamber of Deputies, the explosion in the trunk also indicates that the car was , as when they were detonated they created smoke and sparks typical of this type of material.
Images of the interior of the house rented by Wanderley, in the Ceilândia neighborhood (within the Federal District), show boxes of the brand’s “rojão de vara”. It is possible, and this is not yet clear, that some of the material would have been dismantled to build homemade and rudimentary bombs that would be used at some point.
Another point that still needs clarification is whether Wanderley would have tried to enter the STF building, as the authorities claim. This inference is difficult to prove. The Supreme Court is guarded by security guards. The bomber was alone. He was far from being able to get in, if that was what he wanted. What can be understood from the images already released is that he wanted to throw some homemade explosives towards the building. Then, he committed suicide.
